Who we are
Model Railway Exhibition Calendar (“M.R.E.C”, “we”, “us”) is a UK-based directory that lets exhibition organisers list model railway shows for visitors to browse. This policy explains what personal data we collect and how we look after it under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
What we collect
- Account data — your name and email address when you register as an organiser.
- Listing data — details you submit about an exhibition, including the public contact name, email and telephone number you choose to publish.
- Enquiry data — the name, email, telephone (optional) and message you send when you contact an organiser through our enquiry form.
- Technical data — cookies and similar technologies needed to keep you signed in and to operate the site. We do not use marketing or third-party tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To create and secure your account, and to let you manage your listings.
- To publish exhibition information you have asked us to publish.
- To forward visitor enquiries to the organiser of the relevant listing.
- To send service emails (for example, password reset links).
- To prevent abuse and keep the site running.
Lawful basis
We rely on contract (to provide the account and listing service you have signed up for), legitimate interests (to operate, secure and improve the directory), and consent where you have provided it (for example, by choosing to publish your contact details on a listing).
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. Enquiries are forwarded to the organiser of the listing you contacted. We use trusted third-party hosting and email providers that process data on our behalf under appropriate data protection terms. Information you choose to publish on a listing (such as a public contact email) is visible to anyone who visits the site.
How long we keep it
We keep account data for as long as your account is active. We do not retain exhibition data after an event has finished — listings are automatically deleted 7 days after their finish date. Enquiry data is kept until the enquiry has been concluded, then deleted.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to our processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the Contact page. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies that profile you across other sites.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date.
